What do you get by becoming a member?

By becoming a member at Maker Works, you receive not only access to all tools of the shop, but also the guidance to use them efficiently through our classes and staff support. We provide you with state-of-the-art equipment, a vibrant and supportive community, and the ability to bring your ideas to life with precision and ease. One flat-rate membership is your all-access pass to every tool and corner of our space—just be sure to take the requisite classes for the tools you intend to use. Note that taking classes doesn’t require membership, so you can request the classes you want and be checked out on all of them before you buy your first membership. How does membership work?

Think of Maker Works as a workshop run like a health club. Come in, buy membership by the day, month, or year, and then make stuff. The major points are:

• For any machine where you could hurt yourself, others, or the machine, we have a mandatory checkout class. In this class we’ll cover safety and basic operation.

• Keep in mind that our facility is designed for personal and small-scale projects. For any intentions to use our machines for bulk or mass production, please consult with our staff as we may not always have the capacity to support such activities.

• Tools can be reserved, 2 hours per tool per day.

• There is no hourly charge for machine use!

• We have a few items available for retail sale—vinyl for the vinyl cutter, pewter for casting in jewelry, bobbins for the embroidery machine, etc.—but you can bring your own, too. Most other materials members will bring in (wood, metal, jewels, etc.). See our list of local sources for wood and metal suppliers.
